Voor veel buitenlandse planners is Nederland het ideaalvoorbeeld van wat er met een goede ruimtelijke planning kan worden bereikt. Nederland is een land dat is bedacht en ontworpen door en voor mensen. We mogen dus best trots zijn op onze ruimtelijke ordening.

Hoe is dit allemaal zo gekomen? En welke mijlpalen waren er cruciaal in de afgelopen jaren? Om dit te (her)ontdekken hebben het ministerie van VROM en het Nirov initiatief genomen om de Canon van de ruimtelijke ordening samen te stellen.

Door iconen te benoemen ontdekken we wat ieder, vanuit zijn eigen gezichtspunt, waardevol vindt. Dit referentiekader komt van pas bij actuele discussies over de verdere ontwikkeling van ons land. Het kan ons behoeden voor valkuilen waar we in het verleden in getrapt zijn.

For many foreign planners the Netherlands is the ideal example of what can be achieved with good town and country planning. The Netherlands is a country which was contrived and designed by people. We should therefore be extremely proud of our town and country planning.

How did it all happen? And which milestones were crucial in years gone by? In order to (re) discover this, the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VROM) and the Institute for Planning and Housing (Nirov) took the initiative to compile the Canon of town and country planning.

By nominating icons we discover what everyone finds valuable from their own viewpoint. This reference framework comes in handy in current discussions about further development of our country. It can protect us from the pitfalls which trapped us in the past.
